Thembinkosi Rawula Bio
An Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) central committee member who was left off the party’s nomination lists for parliament and provincial legislatures has made serious allegations against the party’s national leaders, including Julius Malema.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Thembinkosi Rawula alleges that the EFF’s national leaders have been fleecing the organisation, while those who have objected to the practice are being chastised.
Thembinkosi Rawula Statements
Rawula says although he’s been a member of the EFF’s central command team since 2014, he’s never laid eyes on the organisation’s financials.
Rawula made a number of claims about party finances in a public post on Facebook on Friday.
“I have been the national leader‚ a central command team member of the EFF since 2014 and we have never had [a] financial report and when occasionally we find courage to ask about it‚ we are chastised … treated with disdain and threatened to be removed from parliament‚” he writes.
“So for the past five years we had to think with our stomachs rather than objective engaging the executive holding it accountable‚” he adds.
Thembinkosi Rawula Political Party
Rawula said money allocated to the party by parliament could not be cashed in terms of treasury rules‚ but alleged that Malema and Shivambu had used “training providers” – who had inflated costs by 250% – and creamed off 150% of the inflated costs.
He also claimed the pair ran the party like a “dictatorship”.
EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi dismissed Rawula’s claims.
“You need only to ask yourself a simple question: would parliament‚ IEC‚ legislators and councils give us money [party funding] for five years without any audited financial statements?”
He also claims that Malema admitted at a recent meeting that the party had taken money from the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank.
The party has publicly denied being beneficiaries of the large scale corruption which saw almost R2 billion looted from the bank.
Thembinkosi Rawula Claims
In the scathing statement, Rawula claims that Malema and his deputy Floyd Shivambu’s modus operandi is to inflate costs of service providers in order to pocket the party’s funds.
He also accuses EFF treasurer Leigh-Ann Martys as only being responsible for “petty cash” while the party’s finances are controlled by Malema and Shivambu.
The EFF was not immediately available for comment.
