Elizabeth Roxanne Cheesman Rajkovic (born Olmsted, Minnesota, United States, February 16, 1961 -) is a Peruvian economist and historian.

Biography, Parents and Early Life

Daughter of Llinka Rajkovic Chiesa and Ricardo Cheesman. He studied at the Colegio Villa María in the city of Lima.

He entered the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where he studied Economics. He completed a Master’s Degree in International Finance at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, as well as a Diploma in Economic Integration from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands. In 2009 she also graduated as Master in Latin American History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.


He worked as a journalist for Caretas magazine in the 80s and later in the weekly Sí.

In the public sector, she worked at the Institute of Foreign Trade, as president of the Free Zones Commission.

In the nineties, she was a researcher at the Institute for Latin American external debt and a consultant to UNDP.

In October of 2006, it was announced that Cheesman has a son with the then President Alan García. The news spread in the middle of a political scandal because García was married; however, he acknowledged that the son was the product of a relationship he had with Cheesman at the time he was separated from his wife. Currently, he has a relationship with former President García.

Cheesman is a columnist for the newspaper El Comercio , where he writes about history.

On April 17, the BBC reports that Garcia was rushed to hospital in Lima after he shot himself in the neck just prior to being arrested. He was later reported to be dead. Garcia was wanted for his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal involving a Brazilian construction company, Odebrecht. Garcia has maintained his innocence in the case.

Garcia served two terms as the president of Peru, from 1985 until 1990 and 2006 until 2011.
