Faith Mazibuko Early Life

Born on  April 2nd, 1965, in Charleston, Nigel, Eastern Transvaal, South Africa. She is an ANC’s Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation.

Faith Mazibuko Early Education

Faith Nonhlanhla Mazibuko completed her junior primary education at the Jabavu East Community School and then attended St Matthews Roman Catholic School Rockville, Moroka. She then joined Marianhill High School, in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, and completed her high school education at Sekano- Ntoane Senior Secondary School.  She later enrolled at the University of South Africa (UNISA) majoring in Education, English, and History.

Upon completion of her University Undergraduate studies, she joined the Executive Strategic Leadership Course at (WITS) Graduate School of Public and Management School.  She studied for a Certificate in Leadership Communication and a Certificate in Public and Parliamentary Leadership at Rhodes University and the Afrika Intellectual Resources. She has an MBA in Transformational Leadership with the University of Rhodes.

In her youth, she was a member of the Soweto Students League (SSL), Soweto Youth Congress (SOYCO), Young Christian Students (YCS) and Soweto Civic Organisation. She was an executive member of the Moroka Branch African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) as a Pioneer’s Officer, elected an ANCYL Executive Committee (Soweto Zone) as the Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture, served as Provincial Executive Committee Member (ANCYL), and was the Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture.

Early Carrer

In Diepkloof Mazibuko was elected as the Branch Secretary of the Vuyani Mabaxa Branch. She was then re-elected as an African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee Member in Greater Johannesburg.  Mazibuko became a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature In 1996, she served as the Party Whip on portfolio and select committees of Health, Education Arts and Culture. In 2004, she was deployed to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) as an MP representing Gauteng.

Later Carrer

At the NCOP, Mazibuko served in many Ad- hoc Committees including co-chairing the Ad-hoc Committee of the National Youth Development Agency. In May 2010, she was elected as a PEC member of the ANC in Gauteng. Mazibuko was a Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, was also a Deputy Chief Whip. Mazibuko was also a Co-Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring Committee on the Improvement of quality of life and the status of women, youth, children, and people with disabilities.

After the National General elections of April 2009, she was deployed as a Member of Executive Council (MEC) of Infrastructure Development and in November 2010. Later she was redeployed as a MEC for Community Safety in the Gauteng Provincial Government. She is also currently the Provincial Deputy Secretary of the  African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in Gauteng.

Faith Mazibuko ‘Combi Courts’ Rant

On March 13th, 2019 an audio recording of Mazibuko published by amaBhungane was release on which she is heard threatening staffers with dismissal as she pressures them to deliver sporting facilities known as “combi courts” before the 2019 national elections.

She is also heard saying some of the province’s departments did not want to work with white or Indian people.

The recording features a furious-sounding Mazibuko demanding that planned “combi courts,” which allow for a variety of sporting codes to be played on them, would help bring the ANC votes in the May 8 polls.

“We want to use it to campaign and win elections,” the MEC is heard saying.

During her tirade, Mazibuko chastises two senior staffers – believed to be an Indian woman and a white woman – for speaking back at her.

“That’s why some departments, they don’t want to see a white woman or any Indian woman! It’s not about racism, it’s because you like talking English!”

Mazibuko has since apologized, saying that “at no stage did I give unlawful instructions to senior managers in the department”.

Apologise’: Gauteng MEC Faith Mazibuko on a leaked recording

Gauteng sports, arts, culture and recreation MEC Faith Mazibuko has issued a public apology to her head of department and chief financial officer after a leaked audio recording of her lambasting them went viral.

“I, Faith Mazibuko, member of the executive (MEC) responsible for sport, arts, culture and recreation in Gauteng profusely apologise to the people of Gauteng, as a result of the widely circulated audio recording of myself concerning a meeting I held with senior managers, on February 15 2019,” she said in a statement on Thursday.

“After deep personal reflections, I want to unreservedly apologise for the tone and improper language I used towards my head of department (HoD) and chief financial officer (CFO),” she added.

The HoD and CFO had been in a “confidential meeting” with Mazibuko at the time. TimesLive
